What is the biggest misconception about the industry?
People think they only need a consultant when something is wrong with their company. While we are a great resource for problem solving, some of our very best results come from talking to companies that are doing great about optimizing their performance.
What is your biggest current challenge at work?
Anytime you're starting a new business, spreading the word and building a client base is the most important thing. I do feel fortunate to have some great friends in ABC helping me to get rolling though!
What keeps you up at night?
What project is your company most proud of?
We've built several groups of high-quality, high-integrity, non-competitive subcontractors who are collaborating to help one another network into winning their ideal projects. They work so well together and our team has created the platform for them to thrive.
How does your ABC membership help your company?
The very best construction companies in our region belong to ABC. Building meaningful relationships with their people puts us in a position to help them when they have a need.
Tell us something no one in the industry knows about you.
I was the singer in a rock band right after college. We cut and album and spend a couple of years touring on and off. The band broke up in 2007, but our stuff is still on the iTunes store!
What do you look forward to each day?
That moment when I can feel content that I put in a good day's work and it's time to be with my wife and 3 boys.
What are you like to work for?
I have to imagine both fun and intense. I want my team to have total freedom to do their work whenever and wherever they want. We laugh and really get to know each other, but I also have a high standard and expect people to be at their personal best.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy fly fishing for trout, golfing, and playing hockey. I enjoy each of these things more when my kids join me.
What business/career advice do you wish you had when you began?
Don't sign a non-compete agreement. Nobody should be allowed to limit your future options.
