What is the biggest misconception about the industry?

I would say the biggest misconception is that there aren't many roles for women in the industry beyond certain administrative or legal positions. There is opportunity for women in the field, as well as in the C-suite of large general contractors. The career path in construction is promising, regardless of gender.

What is your biggest current challenge at work?

Navigating through the current shortages of skilled labor.

What keeps you up at night?

I've learned to value the importance of sleep, so not a whole lot - particularly if there is an issue that is beyond my control as a leader or our control as a company.

What project is your company most proud of?

It's hard to say. We do a lot of institutional work, so any project that we can deliver on time with exceptional workmanship quality, we're proud of. There is no feeling like attending a ribbon cutting ceremony and feeling the excitement of stakeholders as they walk through their new building.

How does your ABC membership help your company?

Our ABC membership provides a convenient way to forge new relationships with industry partners, as well as improve our skill sets individually and collectively as a company.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A criminal defense attorney.

Tell us something no one in the industry knows about you.

For two years (2009 - 2011), I held the single game rebounding record for Hampton University Women's Basketball. I pulled down 22 boards in a single outing.

What do you look forward to each day?

I look forward to finding ways to better serve our customers and employees, and have a greater impact in our community.

What is your favorite metro Washington hangout/restaurant?

Probably Fogo de Chao. They have a great market table.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?

The original Coming to America.

What do you do for fun?

Spend time with family and friends, or listen to a good investigative podcast.

What business/career advice do you wish you had when you began?

That making mistakes is a part of the journey, and critical in order to learn.

What book are you currently reading?

"Work the System: The Simple Mechanics of Making More and Working Less" by Sam Carpenter... and I always strive to read a couple of passages from The Bible on a daily basis.

What was your first job?

Refereeing youth soccer games while I was in high school.
