Smart Security

What is the biggest misconception about the industry?

The idea that the way things have always been done is the way they should continue to be done. We use technology to make sites much more secure at 90% less than hiring security guards.

What is your biggest current challenge at work?

On the sales end it goes back to the last question, sometimes there's a hurdle to convincing a customer that technology can do a better job than the security guard they're used to using. But once they've tried it they never go back!

What keeps you up at night?

Not much, after long days of running a growing firm I'm ready for sleep :) And I know all of our sites are in good hands with our video surveillance agents all night.

How does your ABC membership help your company?

By participating in great networking and education events. We are not only meeting a lot of awesome people, we are learning along the way.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a business owner, but somehow I ended up being a cop for 22 years. I finally followed my childhood dream when I started my first company (a guard service), later selling my shares to start Mobile Video Guard.

Tell us something no one in the industry knows about you.

Plenty of stories from my 15 years working undercover while on the Prince George’s police department. Probably best to ask me about them at the next happy hour!

What do you look forward to each day?

When we install a system and the project manager or superintendent says "Wow, this is awesome!"- that makes my day.
I enjoy saving our customers a ton of money and at the same time providing them a more secure site, one less thing for them to worry about.

What is your favorite metro Washington hangout/restaurant?

My favorite restaurant is one I have not tried yet. My wife and I enjoy checking off the list of the Washingtonian magazine's best restaurants as we go to them.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?

I rarely have time to watch TV, except for the shows my two-year-old watches (Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig are her favorites), but when I get a chance I enjoy watching Marcus Lemonis', The Profit.

What book are you currently reading?

Alibaba: The House that Jack Ma Built. I'm a huge Audible.com fan and probably go through a book a week - usually biographies or business books.

What was your first job?

At 14 I learned how to be a butcher while working at the Davidsonville Country Store. I was really a cashier but learned how to cut a side of beef when things were slow.

After 22 years in law enforcement and eight years running a security guard service, I knew there had to be a better way to protect client sites. Mobile Video Guard does just that by installing video cameras on a site and monitoring them remotely, for a fraction of the cost of traditional guard service.

In business since 2016
