In the summer of 2007, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty asked the business community to adopt 54 schools that were not scheduled for major construction or "blitz program" repairs. Organizations and businesses were asked to commit at least $10,000 in supplies and services to clean and complete light repairs in the school they adopted. The mayor's goal was to show students that someone cares about their school.

No other organization answered the mayor's call to action the way
ABC of Metro Washington did.


 
We adopted eight schools - one in each city ward -
and several member companies also adopted schools on their own.
