Selzer Gurvitch Rabin Wertheimer & Polott P.C.

What is your biggest current challenge at work?

My biggest current challenge, familiar to those in the construction industry, is balancing quality against cost. Delivering quality results that are cost-effective is my biggest goal in the law, especially in litigated disputes. Meeting this goal requires communication, planning and creative thinking.

What keeps you up at night?

Mainly its the fear of missing something, or leaving something undone. I am constantly going over my cases and thinking, is there something else we could be doing? That rare afternoon coffee doesn't help either.

What project is your company most proud of?

Most recently it is reaching a negotiated resolution of a termination for default, where the GC terminated a sub. Terminations never turn out well for any of the stakeholders. The job will take more time and cost more. And the termination can have disastrous consequences for the terminated party. In this project, working on behalf of the GC, we negotiated the terminated sub returning to the project, and they delivered a quality product on time after they returned.

How does your ABC membership help your company?

ABC provides invaluable exposure to the construction community in the metro area and the events are a great time.  I'm a new member, but have met some great people already and look forward to meeting more.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child growing up in Montana, the choice was clear: I wanted to be a cowboy.

Tell us something no one in the industry knows about you.

My first concert was AC/DC.

What is your favorite Metro Washington hangout/restaurant?

Hank's Oyster Bar

What is your favorite movie or tv show?

Game of Thrones

What do you do for fun?

I am avid golfer, but don't get out as much as I would like to.

What book are you currently reading?

Undaunted Courage about the Lewis and Clark expedition.
