What is the biggest misconception about the industry?
There is a perception that a lot of general contractors in the industry are cutthroat. When you think about it, a general contractor can only be as good as the subcontractors they partner with. We have found better success in treating our subcontractor partners fairly and building long-term relationships.
What keeps you up at night?
Finding good-quality subcontractors that share our vision of service, collaboration and safety.
What project is your company most proud of?
It’s tough to choose just one … In the DC Metro area specifically, this year we were challenged by Citibank to fit out a new 30,000sf Customer Service Center. The project was fast-paced with a difficult schedule and complex coordination of tele-data infrastructure. Like most jobs, the project had its fair share of obstacles but partnering with the client, architect and subcontractors, our team was able to exceed overall expectations.
How does your ABC membership help your company?
While we've completed projects in the DC market for years, we recently opened an office in the region. Being part of the ABC has helped us network and develop new relationships with key partners in the construction industry who are crucial to our success.
What do you look forward to each day? Going home to my loving wife, three daughters and two dogs.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
Easy - 'The Office'.
What do you do for fun?
I truly enjoy the outdoors. I recently did a 10-day hunting and fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness with a backpack and a tent.
What book are you currently reading?
"Extreme Ownership" by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.
What was your first job?
I worked at Dan's Sport Shop selling hunting and fishing gear.
