What is the biggest misconception about the industry?
For people not involved in construction, they tend to associate the flooring industry as a primarily residential when commercial work accounts for most of our work and a large portion of the overall industry.
What keeps you up at night?
New product development has been difficult to keep up with. With the ease of tweaking modern production, manufacturers are constantly innovating new recipes and procedures for various products making keeping abreast of new installation requirements a difficult task.
What project is your company most proud of?
Last year we finished up a Kaiser Permanente with DPR and it involved new and occupied areas. The scheduling and coordination involved in keeping them operational while getting it done quickly was a challenge and getting it done as required was rewarding.
How does your ABC Membership help your company?
While not as involved as we probably should be, we have still had many contractors give us opportunities that without ABC we would not have had.
I also feel like ABC has been our strongest ally in attempting to keep government regulation in check regarding the construction industry.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional football player...what young boy didn't?
What are you like to work for?
I would hope the single word people would use would be "fair".
What is your favorite metro Washington hangout/restaurant?
We tend to be an IHOP family. Breakfast for dinner is as good as it gets :-)
What business/career advice do you wish you had when you began?
Sometimes it's better to make your decision right than make the right decision.
I've found it's more about the follow through, so sometimes you just have to pick a path and move forward.
