Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Elevator & Escalator Division

What is the biggest misconception about the industry?

That it’s challenging to have elevators serviced in a timely manner. When elevators are improperly maintained and break down, and then left out of order for days at a time, building owners and tenants are understandably stressed out. We want to change that narrative and show that entering into a service contract with a trusted manufacturer can not only keep downtime to a minimum, but also prevent breakdowns altogether.

What is your biggest current challenge at work?

Overcoming objections to our pricing. When we only have a potential customer’s attention for a brief time, it can be hard to instill that the quality of our products is worth the price tag.

What keeps you up at night?

My two-year-old.

What project is your company most proud of?

Tysons Central Building A, which we collaborated with Foulger-Pratt and Clark Construction JV on. It’s the first major project in the DMV that showcases all of our products: escalators, traction elevators, machine-room-less elevators, conventional elevators and a hydraulic elevator.

How does your ABC membership help your company?

We just became members and are super excited about the future with ABC! Looking to network and make connections.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a professional golfer – my career took me in a slightly different direction, but I still enjoy golf in my free time.

Tell us something no one in the industry knows about you.

I am an avid golfer and snowboarder.

What do you look forward to each day?

Seeing a reaction from a customer who is happy they chose Mitsubishi Electric for their project.

What are you like to work for?

I approach everything professionally, directly and with an open mind.

What is your favorite metro Washington hangout/restaurant?

L’Auberge Chez Francois. It’s a romantic French restaurant in country setting in Great Falls, Virginia.

Who would you trade places with for a day?

Travis Rice, a professional snowboarder.

What is your favorite movie or tv show?

Game of Thrones.

What do you do for fun?

I like to get off the beaten path and explore new places in the DMV, especially Maryland. There’s so much to enjoy about this area and so many hidden gems.

What business/career advice do you wish you had when you began?

To sell a product’s value regardless of its price tag.

Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life by Karen Rauch Carter.

What was your first job?

I worked the concession stand at my local movie theatre.
