Teaching both the content and the skills, this six-week course introduces attendees to concepts, practices and standards needed to read architectural blueprints in the design and construction fields. Attendees will gain the ability to read floor plans, elevation drawings, symbols and notations to obtain the pertinent information needed. The attendees will acquire a foundational knowledge and enough practice at reading blueprints to get started. Proficiency of blueprint reading will come with time and practice using blueprints on the job on a regular basis.
Understand architectural and engineering scales
Understand different drawing types and their usage
Read a floor plan, section and elevation and understand the information presented
Understand symbols, notation, abbreviations and material schedules
Use the drawing to answer questions or to obtain information on dimensions, finishes, details, area calculations and more
Define the roles that the architect, engineer, contractor and trades have within the construction industry
Describe the functions of schedules and specifications
Discuss construction materials and components of construction assemblies and their representation on prints
Interpret common architectural, electrical, mechanical symbols, equipment and shop drawings
Upon successful completion of the class, attendees will be able to:

Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00-8:00 pm.
