The Chapter Safety Awards recognize companies for their meritorious safety performance in a given year. The award winners are determined using safety factor calculations that incorporate data from Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) reports. Awards are presented by company size (determined by man hours worked during the reporting year) in three classifications.
2013 Chapter Safety Awards Application
ABC's national Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program provides an organized method for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of a company's safety program. Participants are rated on 20 safety program components, including management commitment to safety, employee participation, use of personal protective equipment, and record keeping. Their total rating determines their eligibility for various award levels: silver, gold, platinum, and diamond--the highest honor.
2013 STEP Award Application
Data collected in 2009 shows that Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) participants beat BLS national averages in a number of areas, leading to benefits both when bidding for business and negotiating insurance rates. See the 2009 STEP Data Report.
