2008-2009 TERM

The ABC of Metro Washington Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a structured yet customizable action plan for individuals
looking to:

further their leadership skills and professional development
learn more about ABC of Metro Washington and increase their involvement
demonstrate their desire and ability to serve as a leader of our industry

Throughout the 15-month program, the accepted participants ("students") take part in both required coursework as well as elective activities, customizable to their interests, to earn credits towards the completion of the program.

On June 3, 2009, ABC of Metro Washington celebrated the graduation of 15 students who participated in the 2008-2009 Leadership Development Program. Students could earn credits to graduate at three different levels: Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Reaching these levels was not an easy task! We thank each student for their contributions to our chapter over the past 15 months.

J.P. Blase Cooke Leadership Achievement Award

When we started the Leadership Development Program in 2008, it was just after the industry had lost one of its greatest leaders, Blase Cooke of Harkins Builders. The J.P. Blase Cooke Leadership Achievement Award was developed and was to be given to one stand-out graduate from each cycle of this program who truly demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to the industry and our chapter.

Mike Mohnacs of Shapiro & Duncan led the group
in a discussion of Technology Issues in Contracting, including
a presentation on Shapiro & Duncan's BIM work and
a tour of their fabrication facility.

Fishing Trip

Students, along with ABC of Metro Washington's Barb Smith,
and Advisors George Nash (Facchina Development, LLC)
and Alyson Lyons (DPR Construction, Inc.), enjoyed a day
at sea in Solomons, Maryland on November 7th.

Business Ethics Session



Students, mentors, and members of the advisory council sat in on a course about business ethics, lead by Richard Wokutch from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech.
