Each year, the Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of ABC recognize and celebrate outstanding projects built by Washington-area ABC members. The awards competition serves to raise the level of construction standards throughout the industry by recognizing the workmanship of those who contribute and by showcasing the results of their dedication.
The 28th Annual Metropolitan Washington Excellence in Construction Awards were held at the Marriott Inn and Conference Cetner UMUC on September 9, 2009.

Every year, member companies are given the opportunity to enter their award-winning projects at the national level to compete with "the best of the best" from ABC chapters across the country.
The following firms were recognized at the national awards celebration held at the National Building Museum in June 2009:
Forrester Construction Company was awarded a prestigious Eagle Award, the highest honor, for Kimpton Hotel Monaco in the Renovation $10 - 100 million category. The company also received a Pyramid Award for their King Hall Restoration - US Naval Academy project.
The following companies received national commendations for their projects:
- Clark Construction Group, LLC, for Brentwood Shop Expansion
- Coakley & Williams Construction, Inc., for Sidwell Friends Lower School
- Grunley Construction Company, Inc., for the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center House and Senate Shell Space Fit-out
- Manhattan Construction Company for the Capitol Visitor Center
- McDonnell Landscape, Inc., for the Victims of Communism Memorial
