Chapter Safety Awards
The Chapter Safety Awards recognizes companies for their meritorious safety performance in a given year. The award winners are determined using safety factor calculations that incorporate data from Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) reports. Awards are presented by company size (determined by man-hours worked during the reporting year) in four classifications. The 2008 Chapter Safety Awards, along with the 2008 STEP awards, were presented to the following companies on May 21, 2009 at a special luncheon featuring Maryland Deputy Commissioner of Labor and Industry Craig Lowry. ABC's national Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program provides an organized method for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of a company's safety program. Participants are rated on 20 safety program components, indcluding management commitment to safety, employee participation, use of personal protective equipment, and record keeping. Their total rating determines their eligibility for various award levels: silver, gold, and platinum--the highest honor. Visit
