In my role as president, I provide leadership and management for all internal and external activities of the association subject to the policies and strategic direction adopted by the board of directors. It is my responsibility to ensure that ABC’s mission, goals and objectives are achieved in a resourceful, cost-effective and proficient manner; to provide relevant professional development opportunities for ABC staff members; and to provide a superior customer service experience to our members and other stakeholders.

As the association’s chief spokesperson, I represent ABC before external organizations and groups, and serve as our liaison to other ABC chapters as well as ABC National.

I am the assistant to both the Government Affairs and Membership departments, as well as the President. I also assist the Communications and Accounting departments when needed. My additional responsibilities include maintaining the chapter’s website and membership database; providing information to current and prospective members about the benefits of membership; updating and distributing the chapter’s labor law poster packets; coordinating the Emerging Contractor program; managing office accounts with equipment, IT, and other vendors; and coordinating the chapter’s affinity programs including the Enterprise Fleet Services program and the IWIF discounted workers’ compensation insurance program.

I am happy to have served the Association for the last 18 years and look forward to many more! As staff liaison to the chapter’s Program, Management Education and the Annual Golf Outing committees, my responsibilities include the Chapter’s monthly dinner meetings and networking events, GC Expo, Excellence in Construction Awards, Leadership Conference, and the annual Golf Outing. I am also responsible for all Management Education seminars and programs offered to the membership. I also assist the Student Chapter with their golf tournament, the proceeds of which are distributed in the form of scholarships, and handle exhibitor needs and facility management for the Mid-Atlantic Construction Safety Conference.

My responsibilities include managing our office in the District of Columbia, providing strategic advice on the DC Initiative and implementing activities as directed by the chapter’s leadership, serving as staff liaison to the DC Fair Play Task Force and Community Service Committee, working with the local media on member activities and on issues that affect our members, managing our chapter publications (Building Washington, Annual Directory and Buyers’ Guide and e-NEWS).

Providing administrative support to the Directors of Programs and Education, I assist with the set up of monthly general membership and networking events, management education seminars, safety training and awards programs.  I ensure that registration runs smoothly and coordinate the needs of instructors, guest speakers and attendees.

It’s my responsibility to provide administrative support to the Directors of Communications and Education, respectively. I assist the Director of Communications with publications and communication products, while supporting the Community Service committee and activities. I also assist the Director of Education with special events i.e., graduation, Craft Championships, career fairs, school start up, orientations and end of year student and instructor evaluations. I initiate outreach to and follow up with craft training students, employers, and instructors as needed to obtain grade, attendance, and OJT records. I am the initial point of contact for all things pertaining to grades, attendance and OJT, so I’m responsible for producing those reports as assigned by the Director of Education.

My responsibilities include representing the Association and its membership before the Executive and Legislative Branches of the DC Government, and providing insight into legislative and regulatory issues which directly impact our members who work or are based in the city. In addition to this role, I also serve as the staff liaison for the DC Legislative Committee which crafts the legislative strategy for the Association in the District of Columbia and serve as the Association’s representative before various trade associations, business groups, and community groups.

I serve the members by directing and coordinating activities of all educational programs for ABC CraftMasters Training, Inc. and serve as liaison between the committees, students, instructors, school administrators, federal/state apprenticeship officials, workforce development partners and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Part of my responsibility is to develop marketing strategies and plans of action to encourage employers/companies to utilize ABC of Metro Washington’s programs to train their workforce. Additionally, I fill the role as the staff liaison for the Student Chapter Committee where I assist in the recruiting efforts of participating colleges and universities to provide job site visits, guest speakers, and internship and scholarship opportunities for individuals who are interested in careers in the construction industry. And, as the staff liaison for the Safety Committee, my responsibilities include developing positive programming in an effort to eliminate hazards on the worksite.

I am primarily responsible for the chapter’s membership recruitment, retention, and involvement activities. I serve as staff liaison to the Membership Committee, manage our volunteer Ambassador program, and assist current and prospective members in taking full advantage of the benefits of membership. I am also responsible for helping to develop and manage the chapter’s Leadership Development Program; coordinating diversity-related activities including the online LSDBE Directory and the Prince George’s County Contractors College Program; working with the Breadth, Depth, and Experience Task Force on increasing involvement among more members, young professionals, and past leaders; managing the data production of the chapter’s Annual Directory and Buyers’ Guide; and assisting the chapter leadership with other strategic initiatives to provide high quality member service and promote chapter growth. I also serve on ABC National’s Membership Professionals’ Council and have received the platinum level Membership Professionals Certification through ABC National.

My responsibilities include overseeing the Craft Training and the Apprenticeship and Pre-apprenticeship programs at our training facility in Hyattsville, Maryland. I help organize the annual Boat Battle and Graduation. I am the point of contact for enrollment of new students and apprentices, the liaison to the District of Columbia DOES and the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council. I work with the students, the instructors, and with partner programs such as Goodwill of Greater Washington, in administering their needs to ensure the utmost in quality education.

My primary responsibilities are overseeing and directing the Chapter’s Legislative and Political programs and agendas. My involvement with the Legal Rights and Strategy Committee, Local Maryland Legislative Committee and DC Legislative Committee helps shape the goals and objectives in this arena at the DC government level, as well as in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. In addition, I administer the statewide legislative program coordinated through the ABC Joint Legislative Committee which consists of representation from four of the five Maryland ABC Chapters. I also am responsible for the administration of the two active Political Action Committees of the Chapter in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. I am a registered lobbyist in both DC and Maryland.
