Since September 2005, this educational non-profit has sponsored programs and construction skills training for students enrolled in the Academy of Construction and Design at Cardozo Senior High School. Graduates are fully trained to enter apprenticeship and employment in fields including carpenter helper, HVAC technician assistant, sheet metal apprentice, electrical technician, steam fitter apprentice, HVAC installation technician, and HVAC equipment sales. Students from all DC Wards are encouraged to apply.

DCSCTF will use our donation to commission drawings and obtain building permits for the program’s first home construction project. The project’s goal is to provide a place where students can learn best practices and green building techniques while constructing or retrofitting a single-family home or condominium.

Find out more about DCSCTF at www.dcstudentsctf.org.

Established in 1976, this educational non-profit strives to promote the best education, training and preparation for a career, apprenticeship or college in the construction field. Students are offered two paths: design, which covers principles of architecture and CAD technology, and construction, which offers training in five craft trades. Students from Thomas Edison High School of Technology and Damascus High School design and construct a house each year. The sale of the house funds the next year’s program. In a new pilot program, students are eligible for dual credit/dual enrollment in Montgomery College’s construction management/technologies program.

With the sale of the house built by students last year affected by the current market, MCSCTF did not raise the funds it expected. It will use the donation to increase enrollment and fund students’ tuition and books in the dual credit/dual enrollment program with Montgomery College.
